Why engineers choose Titanium Ti-6Al-4V

Ti-6Al-4V combines relatively low density with high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. Its cost and manufacturing difficulty are much higher than common aluminum or steel.

Manufacturing routes

Titanium Ti-6Al-4V is commonly encountered in CNC machining · forging · metal additive. The process route matters because material condition, anisotropy, tolerances, surface finish and residual stress can differ substantially between molding, machining and additive manufacturing.

Design considerations

Low thermal conductivity and high chemical reactivity make machining demanding. Thin features can deflect or chatter. Additive routes can unlock geometry but usually require post-processing, inspection and careful qualification.

Environment and durability

Corrosion resistance is excellent in many environments and biocompatible grades are widely used in medical applications. Temperature and fatigue performance depend on processing history.

What to compare before specifying it

Compare titanium with 7075 aluminum for lower-cost lightweight structures, 316L for corrosion-resistant but heavier components, and PEEK when nonmetallic high-performance behavior is acceptable.
