Why engineers choose PEEK
PEEK is used in aerospace, semiconductor, medical and industrial applications where ordinary thermoplastics cannot maintain performance. It is expensive and should be justified by actual requirements.
Manufacturing routes
PEEK is commonly encountered in Injection molding · machining · high-temperature additive. The process route matters because material condition, anisotropy, tolerances, surface finish and residual stress can differ substantially between molding, machining and additive manufacturing.
Design considerations
High processing temperatures, tooling design, crystallinity and machining strategy matter. Reinforced grades can be substantially more anisotropic and abrasive to tools. Tolerances should reflect the actual process route.
Environment and durability
PEEK has strong chemical and hydrolysis resistance across many environments, but every critical chemical and sterilization exposure still requires grade-specific confirmation.
Relative engineering profile
These 1–5 ratings are deliberately qualitative. They help shortlist materials but must not replace grade-specific datasheets, testing or supplier guidance.
What to compare before specifying it
Compare PEEK with PPS, PEI or high-temperature nylons before accepting its cost. Compare with metals when stiffness and thermal expansion are the dominant requirements.
